Defining the word "seduction" has always been difficult. It can mean many things, however, the most common, and most accepted definition states that 'seducing' someone is the art of enticing another person in some sort of behavior, most fequently sexual activity. The main point about seduction is that it happens without any use of force or coercing, and happens totally at the seduced person's will. The word itself has, over the years, gotten a kind of a negative undertone. It implies deliberatly manipulating someone, in a time where most believe that love is a sacred domain, where things just fall into place, if they are meant to.
Seduction, however, was developed solely for this single purpose. Seducing someone, by definition, is the art of using psychological facts and tools, appearances and a charged presence to arouse in the seduced one a deep desire. Originally mostly practiced by men, it has also become a very favored tool of women, who feel, as men, problems in overcoming their loved one's resistances.
Seduction, as a form of overcoming a person's resistance to sex, a form of power, or control, is almost as old as humanity itself. Seduction, as it always was, however, was a woman invention, with Cleopatra as it's first and most outstanding practitioner, when she managed to seduce the at the time most powerful man in entire europe, Julius Ceasar.
Since that time, seduction has evolved, into numerous diffrent sorts. And many diffrent approaches to it have been developed (see below). Over time, men have also started to use seduction, as a way to overcome a (mostly young) woman's initial resistance to sex. Some of these are for example Giacomo Casanova, and the Duc de Richelieu, as well as literary characters such as Don Juan and Genji.
Today, an absolut peak in the variety and popularity of seduction has been reached. The reasons are as numerous as the persons themselves. One for example is the wish for something larger than solely a one night stand, another may be for example to reach just that, a single night of pleasure, not followed by any obligations or similar. The wish for people to be able to have at least some degree of control in their love life is as great as almost never before. For private persons, this of course is a chance to improve their love lifes.
Over the yeras, many forms of seduction have been developed. They vary drastically in their approach, the morality, the success rate and the speed, with which they yield results.
One is the classical form of "dating", although experts of seduction estimate that the success rate of the classical dating scheme is maybe a bit too low, considering the amount of time required to achieve success. Another form of seducing, though seldom seen today, is that of directly asking the person if he/she would like to have sex. The success rate for this form is, naturally, very low, however, it takes the least amount of time, so some still use it. A third form is, which today is considered one of the most artful, is the NLP approach, or Hypnotic seduction, also commonly known as 'erotic hypnosis'. This is often considered as the best approach, since it yields good results, has a high success rate, and does so in a short amount of time.
Shortly after the break of the 1950s, people entered a world where psychology began to be developed increasingly. Although it would seem that this technique is quite old, it is in fact pretty new. The idea of inviting the subject to a "date", has not appeared until the mid 1900s. It is specifically hollywood which has introduced this method of "inviting a girl to a date". Effectiveness: Should be around 30-50 %. Most of which goes wrong, even before the seducer knows what went wrong.
The idea of this approach to seduction is very simple: Go to a person, and ask them if they would like to have sex with them, or get a relation-ship. This method is estimated the quickest, and possibly most painless method, however also the one with the most failures, since it only works with persons who do not have any resistance to a sexual encounter, and seduction is just about lowering these resistances. Effectiveness: around 6-14 %. Good looks have been said to be the key role in this approach.
Real and effective coquettes are seldom seen today. This is so because this form of seduction takes time, is hardly learnable from a book or an instruction, and requires perfect self control, with a lot of expierience. The principle is simply to alternate hot and cold, all the time. This is known to drive the seduced ones crazy, however, it is also known that one mistake spells doom on the seduction. Effectiveness: Highly dependant on the skill of the seducer. Can vary between 10 up to 60 %!
This is by many considered the newest, and also most artful form of seduction. The principle behind this is to seduce a person by using the techqniues found in NLP (Neuro linguistic programming), and could, in a far sense, be compared to hypnosis. Learning it takes time, but it has been known and feared to be very effective. Effectiveness: Around 60-80 %.
Many people still believe that it is good looks which attract the desired person to one self. This is only true if no attempt is made to lower that person's resistance. However, all the forms of seduction have been developed solely for this simple purpose. If people had no resistances to a form of character, the aesthetic of a person or their physique, then seduction would be unnecessary. People would simply multiply like rabbits.

Seduction can also be used to charm the masses. No politian today could possibly succeed without having at least basic skills in seducing an audiance.
Likewise, seduction can also be used to sway others to your way of thinking. It need not be limited to the love life. The options are almost limitless, and it's potential never ceases to amaze.
Sedcution has always been a double edged sword, and a razor-sharp one at that. Some have used seduction merely to finally get their loved one. Some have used it to have a legacy of affairs and one-night-stands, which has also worked quite well. And finally, there have always been persons who have used seduction for other purposes than love. They have, after the person has fallen in love with them, manipulated these persons to do or think things, which the lover mostly did blinded by his or her feelings for the seducer.
Such power is not to be underestimated. There have been countless cases in history where the above has been the case. A wonderful example is cleopatra herself. After she seduced ceasar, she convinced him to help her in the war against her junger brother, which, ultimatly, resulted in her having the control over the entire egyptian empire, all thanks to her seduction of Julius Ceasar.
Another example would be Lola Montez, who even seduced a king once, which lead to the downfall of an entire nation, because of her acts.
However you decide to use seduction: To simply learn, to teach, to seduce, or to manipulate and deceive, is up to you. The method itself doesn't change, it's the usage and what follows which makes it "good or bad"
